With New Jersey primary elections coming up on June 8, here is some important information so that you can make your voice heard!

 What is the primary election:

During the primary election, voters will be able to vote for the candidate affiliated with their respective party. To vote in the primary election you will need to be registered by Tuesday, May 18th

New Jersey has what is known as a “closed primary.” This means that you must declare an affiliation with a particular party in order to vote in the primary election.

 Who Can Register to Vote:

You can register to vote if you are a U.S. citizen, 17 years old (with the understanding you may not vote before your 18th birthday), have been a resident of your NJ county 30 days before the elections, and you are not currently serving a sentence of incarceration for a felony conviction. Effective March 17, 2020, individuals on probation or parole are eligible to register to vote. Remember to re-register to vote if you change your name, address, or complete your sentence.

 Vote By Mail:

Vote by Mail ballots are available for any registered voter for any election. For this election, voters will have to request a vote by mail ballot. Voters are able to return ballots by mail, using a ballot drop box, in-person at their County Board of Elections, or at their polling place on Election Day.

A voter may vote by mail by completing the Application for Vote by Mail Ballot and returning the application to their County Clerk. To receive your ballot by mail, the application must be received by your County Clerk 7 days prior to the election. A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3:00 p.m., the day before the election.

County Clerks cannot accept faxed or emailed copies of an application for Vote by Mail Ballot, unless you are a Military or Overseas Voter, because an original signature is required.
