Get Involved: NJ for Affordable Drugs!

New Jersey Citizen Action

New Jersey Citizen Action

Prescription drug prices are skyrocketing across New Jersey and the United States. In the first week of January alone, pharmaceutical companies raised the prices more than four times inflation on over 600 drugs.

High prescription drug prices have serious and real effects on our community. Research shows that 1 in 3 Americans report not taking their medication as prescribed due to cost and 1 in 5 New Jersey adult residents do not fill a prescription, cut pills in half, or skip a dose due to drug affordability. This is unacceptable; drugs don't work if you can't afford them.

One of our top 2021 policy priorities is prescription drug pricing reform at both the state and federal level.

  • In New Jersey, we are working to establish a Drug Affordability Review Board (S1066/A2418). Such a board has already been successfully established in Maryland and Maine. With this legislation, New Jersey has the opportunity to lower the costs of prescription drugs and finally stand up to Big Pharma. Unfortunately, both bills were stalled due to the pandemic.

  • Nationally, we're supporting efforts to end Big Pharma's monopoly control on drug pricing, require transparency for taxpayer investments in research and development of new drugs, and stop the price-gouging that has made Pharma the most profitable industry in the nation.

The importance of lowering the costs of prescription drugs has never been more clear than it is now, during a global pandemic. People shouldn't have to decide between paying the rent or refilling their prescriptions, especially medications to treat COVID-19.

We need you to join our fight. We cannot wait any longer for affordable prescription drugs. Join our campaign to be the first to receive news and action alerts as we re-launch our push to establish a Drug Affordability Review Board here in New Jersey. If you've struggled to pay for your prescriptions and want to share your story with us, let us know! Join Our Campaign! Share Your Story!

Together, we can stand up to Big Pharma and put public health before profit,
