Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey

On April 23, a federal district court judge in Oregon announced that he will issue a preliminary injunction to block the Trump-Pence administration’s gag rule on Title X, the nation’s only program dedicated to affordable birth control and reproductive health care. The gag rule, which would have gone into effect May 3, would bar providers from giving their patients complete information and block care at Planned Parenthood, even though Planned Parenthood serves approximately 40 percent of Title X patients.

This is a victory for patients and doctors in this country. However, while this is a victory for patients and doctors, this celebration is only temporary. The preliminary injunction provides relief for Title X patients and health care providers while the case continues to be litigated; it is virtually certain that the Trump-Pence administration will appeal this ruling. We’re going to continue to fight the Trump-Pence administration in court and in Congress to ensure our patients’ health and rights are protected. We won't ever back down from protecting patients' right to health care. Email Congress now and make your voice heard. Tell them to support the Title X Protection.

 Roundtable with Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill
U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill joined a roundtable discussion hosted by PPAFNJ on the harmful impacts of the Trump-Pence administration’s Title X gag rule. Local students, activists, representatives of statewide advocacy organizations, and Planned Parenthood staff focused on how the gag rule will have an outsized impact on young people, as young people represent the large majority of Title X patients. In New Jersey, 60 percent of Title X patients were age 29 or younger in 2018. Read the full recap here.

Roundtable with Congressman Frank Pallone Jr.
PPAFNJ hosted the final event in our series of roundtable discussions with members of the state’s congressional delegation. Congressman Frank Pallone joined Planned Parenthood patients, medical providers, representatives of New Jersey community organizations, and reproductive health advocates to discuss the harmful impacts of the Trump-Pence administration’s Title X gag rule. While last week, federal courts announced an injunction on the rule which was slated to go into effect on May 3, this event highlighted that the injunction is only a temporary fix, and more work needs to be done to prevent New Jersey’s patients from losing access to affordable, preventive reproductive health care services.
