LWV: Putting power back in the Hands of NJ Voters

Exciting news: our team at the League is back in Trenton and we aren't wasting any time. We are busy gearing up for one of the busiest falls and lame duck sessions that our state has seen in years.

Legislation will move quickly (and if the past is any indication, with little public input or transparency), but your support will help us get ahead of New Jersey’s flawed legislative process.

Here is the plan:

  1. Modernize New Jersey’s Voting Systems: Our democracy is stronger when more people can participate and have their voices heard at the ballot box. We will advocate for same-day voter registration

  2. Reform New Jersey’s Redistricting Process: We will provide voters with the tools to understand New Jersey’s redistricting process, combat gerrymandering, advocate for their communities in the map-making process, submit their own maps and testimony, and hold commissioners accountable. This opportunity to redraw our maps only happens once every 10 years – we must get it right!

  3. Update New Jersey’s Ethics Laws:  We can pass legislation that allows for greater public participation in the policies that impact us all – before they are rushed through for a vote.

  4. Fight for Better Ballots: We will continue our work challenging New Jersey’s unique “party line” ballot design system. This ballot design serves the politically powerful while suppressing New Jersey voters and must be abolished.

  5. Advocate for New Jersey’s Policy Priorities: Together, we can pass legislation which advances economic and racial justice, preserves our environment, promotes quality public education, protects the health of women and families, and more.

Democracy cannot thrive when legislators work behind closed doors passing bills or drawing maps. Your voice makes a difference. Thank you for defending our democracy and making it possible for us to empower even more New Jersey voters this year.

We appreciate whatever you can give.

Thank you,

Jesse Burns, Executive Director
